sudden directory loss in explorer.py

Hello,
Recently we updated to Artiq 8, and things have been running smoothly when, seemingly in one day, upon right clicking the explorer panel, and selecting 'Open file outside repository' we get an empty pop-up panel and the following error:

I have spent a while trying to debug the generic lines in which we get the exception error, but any changes made to the explorer.py file does not seem to be recognised when we try opening a file in the explorer panel. The same error gets thrown.

However I can comment out all the lines and I dont get an error thrown, but I still cant access any file in the popup menu. It seems as though its looking outside the 'C:/' directory when it should be inside it.
Any helpful comments appreciated.

To better understand and potentially resolve the problem, could you please provide some additional information:

What environment are you running artiq in? (e.g., msys2, conda)
Could you briefly outline the steps you're taking before encountering this error?
You mentioned being able to comment out lines to prevent the error. Could you specify which lines you're commenting out?

My guess is there may be a bug if you:

open a directory in this dashboard's feature then close the dialog box
delete the directory
try to open the dashboard's dialog box again, and it remembers the last opened directory but it no longer exists

Please test the above.

@sb10q The error is indeed thrown on both windows and NixOS, however me and @fsagbuya both found that we are able to exit to the previous directory if this does happen, making it a non-issue.

@sk790 If the directory does in fact exist, please note that "Open file outside repository" searches on the system running artiq_master not the artiq_dashboard. It is documented in the manual.
